The well-being of more than half of the 1.2 billion people who live in poverty
depends to a significant degree on the availability of non-timber forest
products (NTFPs). Such products are used to meet daily subsistence needs,
making a significant contribution to food security, and also provide a valuable
source of building materials and medicines.
